The enure matter sounded so odd that it took Layla some time to digest what she had heard You’re telling me that the Caroline that I know isn’t part of our family?”
“Yes,” said Dan, staring directly at her.
“Once I reveal this to everyone, Caroline won’t be able to hold on to her position as the company’s
CEO.”
Layla swallowed, tempted by his offer. “What do you want in return?”
“Have Eddy help us so I won’t be locked up,” Dan told her.
“And let me become the CEO of Evans Group once again!”
Layla finally calmed down after taking a few deep breaths. “Dan, don’t you think that you’re
asking for a bit too much?”
“A secret like this in exchange for something that once belonged to me is fair enough, don’t you
think?”
Dan glanced at Sarah and continued, “Besides, do you think Jude would still insist on Eddy
marrying Caroline once he finds out that she isn’t my daughter?”
That was the best Layla could ever hope for.
She pressed her fingers against her temple as if to think about Dan’s offer. A moment later, she
said, “Okay then. It’s a deal.”
“I’ll go and get the documents ready so I can prove to the board that she isn’t my biological
daughter.”
“There’s no rush.” A smirk appeared on Layla’s face now.
“Caroline thinks that she’s really good at doing business. Let her handle Evans Group for a while
longer.”
She continued, “Why don’t you just assume her position once she settles all the problems? You
can reap what she sowed by then.”

Sarah watched them from where she sat beside Dan, puzzled.
She didn’t know what they meant, but she was certain that she and Dan wouldn’t meet their doom this time
As long as Layla was willing to coax Eddy into helping them, they wouldn’t have to worry about being sent to jail.
For the past few days, Caroline had been busy looking after Kirk in the hospital. So she had Cheryl send over all the work documents to her there. Fortunately, nothing much happened at the
company.
Caroline started thinking of purchasing Mackey Group.
Back then, she had promised Liam that she would purchase his company at a price higher than
the market value if he took her side during the election.
However, he had broken his promise to her, so he shouldn’t blame her for what was to come.
Caroline flipped through the documents Cheryl had brought for her and started scanning through
the pages.
She racked her brains to come up with a way to purchase Mackey Group at a lower price than its
market value.
“Are you thinking of a way to purchase Mackey Group?” Came Kirk’s gruff voice.
Startled, Caroline turned to look at him. She wondered if he had implanted a chip in her brain to
help him know exactly what she was thinking about.
“Don’t look at me like that. I’might misunderstand you.” Kirk laughed.
“Actually, I have an idea, but-”
Caroline interrupted him with a wave of her hand. “No, thank you.”
